The "We Remember You" Project

This project is a charitable initiative focused on creating a non-commercial cemetery complex with 3,500 burial places. The purpose of the project is to provide an accessible, inclusive, and publicly beneficial burial option where no plot is sold or transferred as property. All burial spaces are provided without charge as part of the organization’s charitable mandate.

To maintain the grounds, infrastructure, and long-term operations, the program uses a Conditional Gift. This contribution is not a fee, does not purchase a plot, and does not generate private benefit. It is a restricted charitable donation used solely to support maintenance, safety measures, landscaping, utilities, and upkeep of shared facilities. All Conditional Gifts are collected into a designated program fund and spent strictly in accordance with the organization’s charitable purposes.

The amount of each Conditional Gift is based on the average market costs of burials in Canada. Current public data show that a traditional burial typically costs between 10,000 and 12,000 CAD. To cover a portion of future maintenance obligations, the Conditional Gift for a full-body burial is set at 25% of that average, approximately 2,500 CAD. For a columbarium placement, where the typical market cost is about 5,500 CAD, the Conditional Gift is set at 10%, or approximately 550 CAD.

This structure ensures that no commercial activity is involved, no plot is purchased, and no individual or related party receives private benefit. All resources are directed toward the public good by providing a respectful, well-maintained, and accessible memorial space for individuals of any background, culture, or faith. The project aligns with CRA requirements for charitable operations, public benefit, and proper application of restricted charitable gifts.
